While many kids learn to swim without a single lesson, it’s not something we all picked up. And with summer well and truly here, it’s not a bad idea to get a few lessons as an adult if you don’t feel confident in the water. It’s a wonderful way to relax and enjoy Australia’s beautiful climate and many indoor and outdoor swimming pools, beaches and rivers.
Knowing how to swim can also save a life, so if you’re going camping near a lake or holidaying at the beach this summer, it’s something to think about. Here are some options for learning to swim as an adult in the Wyndham City region.
Aquapulse
With swimming lessons for teens, adults and seniors, it’s never too late to learn to swim at Aquapulse. The WynSwim program teaches fundamental swimming and water safety skills, and classes can be tailored to suit the learning requirements and pace of individual swimmers. Lessons are available for first-time swimmers who want to be safer around the water through to those looking to improve or learn new strokes or improve their endurance level.
Aquapulse has a 25m and 50m swimming pool, warm water pool, Aquafit classes, splash park, spa, sauna, steam room and waterslides. Women’s only swimming sessions are available once a week.
Aquapulse is located on Derrimut Road in Hoppers Crossing
Saltwater Swim
Salt Water Swim Schools offer adult swimming lessons for all ages and skills levels, whether you are only just starting out, or looking to swim better. Lessons are booked in 6 or 7-week blocks and run for 30 minutes. For those that don’t have a lot of time available, adult classes also run during school holidays when you can undertake a 30-minute class once a day for a week.
Salt Water Swim Schools also offer aqua aerobics classes – you can participate casually or purchase packs of 10 sessions.
Saltwater Swim is located on Kenswick Street in Point Cook and McCormacks Road in Bacchus Marsh.
Shawn’s Swim School
With adult swim lessons run three times a week for an hour at a time, Shawn’s Swim School has lessons to cater for all levels from the beginner needing to gain water confidence through to adults who can confidently swim but would like to correct their stroke. With no children in the pool during adult class times, this is a great distraction-free option.
Shawn’s Swim School is located on Richards Road in Hoppers Crossing.
Swim4All
Swim4All operates from the Werribee pool (Merchants Court, Werribee) daily, all year round, excluding a few weeks over Christmas. With classes for adults as well as special needs and disability classes, each class runs for 30 minutes. Adult classes are private lessons to ensure the best learning environment. A big benefit, those on NDIS can use their NDIS funds for swimming lessons.
Brightwaves
With two locations, Brightwaves offers adult swim classes as well as water safety awareness talks and private pool bookings. Lessons run all year with a small break for the Christmas holidays.
Brightwaves has a pool on Cottrell Street in Werribee and on the corner of Davis Road and Hummingbird Way in Tarneit.
Paul Sadlers Swimland
Paul Sadlers Swimland offers adult classes for all levels, from the very beginner through to those looking to refine their swimming technique. The swim teachers can help you get ready for a triathlon or to simply enjoy time in the water with your family.
Parents can also participate in the Parent-Child program which is a great way to get your child water ready.
Paul Sadlers Swimland is located on Burnley Street in Laverton and Thames Blvd in Hoppers Crossing.
