Why Wyndham City is great for sports lovers
Are you thinking of joining a sports club this year? Fortunately, there’s a lot on offer in Wyndham City, from team sports to free beach activities. Here at Established Property we are also proud to sponsor several clubs, and enjoy seeing the great team spirit of our local players. Read on for some ideas for getting active this summer in Wyndham.
Time for cricket
There is no shortage of cricket clubs in the area and something for just about everyone. Here’s a rundown of the clubs in different areas of Wyndham – go along for a trial or to watch a game and join in if you like.
Point Cook Cricket Club at Saltwater Reserve is the oldest established club in the area, and Established Property is one of its major sponsors. In 2023 the club offers junior training to girls and boys, and both women’s and men’s teams.
Other clubs in the area include the Sanctuary Lakes Cricket Club at Featherbook Oval; the Wyndham Vale Cricket Club at Wyndham Vale South Reserve; the Werribee Centrals Cricket Club at Galvin Park Reserve; the Truganini Cricket Club; the Seabrook Cricket Club at Bruce Comben Reserve in Altona Meadows; the Tarneit Central Cricket Club and the North West Cricket Club in Truganini – an amateur cricket club with more than 40 teams.
Golf at Sanctuary Lakes
Given that the exclusive Sanctuary Lakes estate was established in partnership with golfing legend Greg Norman, it’s no surprise that the legendary Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club continues to go strong. With a beautifully maintained 18-hole championship golf course, members’ lounge, driving range and golf shop, it’s a fantastic facility that we are proud to sponsor.
Football, netball, and more
Point Cook Centrals Sporting Club, which we are also proud to sponsor, is a club that makes this area what it is. Home of the Sharks, it offers Senior Mens’ and Women’s football teams, junior football, Point Cook Centrals Netball and Point Cook Centrals Auskick (for kids aged 5-12, with a clinic on Saturday mornings).
Aqua sports and classes
Another fantastic initiative for staying fit and healthy is a WynActive Membership, which gives you access to AquaPulse, with its pool, steam room and sauna, plus group fitness classes, some services at Eagle Stadium, and seasonal access to Werribee Outdoor Pool.
Check out the various membership options here and give yourself the gift of healthy living in the new year.
Hit the water
If you prefer to spend time on the beach in the summer months, head to Werribee South beach, where Life Saving Victoria will be patrolling throughout the summer school holidays from 11.30am until 6.30pm, meaning you can swim with confidence.
A fantastic initiative from the local youth services team is the Street Surfer Bus and Summer Session events on offer at the beach. Open to young people aged between 12 and 25, these include free sports sessions and beach fitness with a personal trainer, yoga, netball, football, beach volleyball, soccer and more – plus a free barbecue. There are also tennis courts, a playground and a skatepark.
Have a look on the Wyndham Council website for dates, locations and weather updates.
If you are heading to the beach, always have a look at Beach Safe beforehand, or download the app, to stay aware of rips and local weather conditions.
