Get your home ready for a spring sale
Spring is a great time to sell your home in Melbourne. The weather is warmer, the sun is shining and people are out and about after a gloomy winter. Plus, spring is when gardens look absolutely magnificent with all the gorgeous flowers in full bloom.
So what do I need to do to my home?
Whether you live in Point Cook, Sanctuary Lakes, Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, or elsewhere in Wyndham City, the first thing you want to do is look at the kerb appeal of your home. You only have three seconds to make a good first impression as people drive by. Here are a few tips to make your house stand out:
- Mow and green up your lawn. Although your lawn should be looking green with all the rain that we’ve had, you can give it a bit of a boost by applying some weed and feed. Not only will this get rid of any pesky broadleaf weeds but it will also provide some extra nitrogen to green up your lawn at the same time.
- Trim the edges. While you’re mowing, make sure that you trim the edges as well.
- Weed the garden beds and add some mulch. As the warmer weather arrives, so do the weeds. Make sure your garden beds are nice and tidy by removing those pesky weeds and adding a thick layer of mulch.
- Trim the shrubs and hedges.
- Sweep the paths and driveway. If there’s a build-up of moss, you can hire a pressure washer to remove it and make your paths and driveway look fantastic.
- Replace that worn-out letter box. If your letterbox has seen better days, replace it with a new and more modern one. Make sure that your street number is visible.
Add some fresh paint and make your home shine
Giving your interiors a fresh coat of paint is the best money that you can spend when selling. Nothing brightens up the rooms in your house more than spotlessly clean walls. Make sure that you stick to just neutral tones.
If you have the time, the same goes for the outside of your home. Keep the main part of the house fairly neutral in colour and add some accents by painting the window frames, guttering, and spouting in a complimentary tone.
You can even add a spot of interest by painting the front door in a bright colour. This will draw the eye and invite people in. While you’re freshening up the entry, add a nice new door mat and a couple of large pots of flowers.
Don’t forget to get rid of all of the cobwebs and make sure that all the windows are sparkling clean.
Style your home to appeal to prospective buyers
Before you add some unique styling touches, make sure that you declutter and depersonalise your home first. You want to ensure that anyone who visits your home with a view to purchasing it, can see themselves living there.
Have a chat with us about the kind of potential buyers that are likely to be interested in your home. Then you can add some interior styling that will appeal to these buyers.
This often means removing most of your personal items and adding just a few touches to make your home look lived-in and inviting. Consider things like candles, bright cushions, interesting artwork, and fresh new towels and linens. It’s also important to make sure that spaces are defined and look generous by removing unnecessary furniture.
